From January 1, 2018, the FrankfurtRheinMain region and the State of Hessen will be operating a joint US agency in Chicago for the first time. The office is a joint project of FrankfurtRheinMain GmbH International Marketing of the Region (FRM GmbH) and Hessen Trade & Invest GmbH (HTAI).
"Cities and regions are in the international competition for investment and skilled workers. It is very important for the FrankfurtRheinMain region and the State of Hessen to expand their international positioning. The opening of a joint office is the right step to use the resources of the state and the region effectively and purposefully. This will enable us to promote the US in the future", says Eric Menges, president and CEO of FrankfurtRheinMain GmbH International Marketing of the Region.
Dr. Rainer Waldschmidt, CEO of Hessen Trade & Invest GmbH adds; "The USA is our most important trading partner; for American companies we are Germany's number one business location. More than 1,500 US companies have already established themselves today, around 20,000 US citizens live and work here, shaping the international image of Hessen and FrankfurtRheinMain. It is important to develop this position and therefore it is only logical that we bundle the activities of the state and the region in the USA."
The management of the joint representative office of state and region is John D. Gatto. The graduate of the Universities of Giessen and Wisconsin, whom has a degree in law, is internationally experienced and has been president & CEO of NRW.INVEST, the investment promotion agency of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, in Chicago since 2008. Dr. Gatto will make contact with American companies and network for the FrankfurtRheinMain region and the State of Hessen in order to inform them about investment and settlement opportunities in the business location and to represent the foreign trade interests of the State of Hessen in the USA.
The office is in the building of the German Chamber of Commerce (AHK) in Chicago. This will lead to numerous synergies. American companies will directly receive on site information, on what they need to settle in FrankfurtRheinMain or Hessen.
